A Rainbow of Fun!

Program Name: Infant

During the month of June, the infants have been celebrating pride month in an age appropriate manner. The educators have provided activities involving rainbow colours and board books.

The educators have observed that the infants enjoy activities involving the colourful sand. One morning, Educator Amanda made a rainbow in the tuff tray with the colourful sand, she also added in some silicone shapes. The infants fostered their sense of touch, fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination with this activity. Many of the infants seemed to enjoy the sound the toys made as they moved them through the sand.

Another day, Educator Amanda filled the tuff tray with all the rainbow toys from the classroom. The infants gravitated to the stacking toys, they spent a lot of time stacking toys and knocking them down. The infants also enjoyed playing peekaboo with the colourful scarves.

The educators thought it would be nice to do a tie-dye activity with the infants so everyone would have a colourful piece of clothing to wear. Educator Amanda helped the children one by one to use the tie-dye. This activity taught the children colour recognition as Amanda named the colours she used. Amanda allowed each child to choose the colours as she showed them how to squeeze the dye onto the clothing.

We wonder what other ways we can explore colours?
