Program Name: Infant

The School-age 1 class is getting into a construction worker's spirit with various dramatic play activities. To scaffold the children's interest, some construction tools, and different materials such as pipe-cleaners, pom-poms, pinecones, and gems were offered to the group. The children made lots of different snow structures. They also engaged in a combination of creative and symbolic play. Mona hid all the materials in different places in the snow in anticipation to observe what the children were going to do. Gabriel picked up a shovel and then looked at Mona with a big smile on his face and said ”Look Mona, I found the master, I will dig it out for a real-life treasure, I am the captain.” Olivia, Adain, Jenica, William, Robynne, Ryan, and Daksh all collected tools and dug for a treasure. Jenica said, “I found a cave.”. Adain added “We may have found lots of treasure there.” William said “I found three treasures, Mona.” Daksh, Olivia, and Robynne used their fine motor skills and said “We will build a castle to hide the treasures.”

Dramatic play experiences support and foster children's stem skills. As they engage in pretend play, the children are able to use their imagination while also learning about themselves, the world and how things work. Dramatic play also helps to strengthen a child’s language development, social skills and play skills. This evidence proves that children learn through play.
