Happy New Year School-age 1 families! It has been a very cold start to the year, but that hasn’t stopped us from engaging in fun and meaningful activities. At the beginning of the month, the school-age children came together for a group discussion and creative activities focused on weather. This sparked great conversations, collaboration, and curiosity as the children shared their ideas and explored weather through hands-on experiences. The school age1 children engaged in different activities related to snow, the children participated in snow themed activities both indoors and outdoors. These activities included exploring real snow, creating snow art, and discussing how snow forms and affects our environment. When cold temperatures limited our outdoor play, the children explored snow-themed activities indoors, creating engaging learning experiences that brought the excitement and wonder of snow into the classroom. During small group activities, the children participated in collaborative art projects, which provided opportunities for personal expression and communication. These experiences also supported the development of social skills and boosted children’s confidence. They showed excitement and curiosity as they touched, observed and experimented with the snow. The children compared textures, noticed how snow melts and feels cold, and shared their observations with friends. Some worked together to build snowmen and snow structures, while others created snow art and engaged in snow-making activities. These experiences supported critical thinking as children observed changes in temperature, developed fine motor skills through building, molding, and creating art, and strengthened social skills by sharing their ideas and collaborating with peers.
