Hockey Activity

School-age 3

This month the children participated in a hockey activity. They taped a chart with a hockey field drawing securely onto the table to create their playing area. Chayce took on the role of blocking the goal. He showed excellent hand-eye coordination while moving quickly to stop the puck. Chayce also used good strategies during the game. For example, he pretended to shoot in one direction and then changed his move to score, showing his problem-solving skills. Jaxon chose to be the referee and made comments throughout the game, helping guide the play. Fred, Iggy and Kayleb who were building with Lego noticed the game and joined the group. They began cheering for the two teams, adding excitement and teamwork to the play. There were conversations regarding different hockey teams and famous players. Chayce shared the name of his favourite player and pointed towards its picture saying, “I want to become like him, when I grow up”. This activity helped children to know more about hockey game and promoted sportsmanship, empathy and cooperation within teammates.
