Magic Paint

Preschool 2

This month children had fun with painting with paintbrushes and paint with different colours of paint. We decided to attempt a science experiment based on the children’s interests. One of the Preschool 2 educators had some expired sunscreen that they brought in to experiment with! We set up the table by collecting black paper and paintbrushes. Then the educator put some of the sunscreen on a paper plate. The children said, “that’s not paint!” The educator explained that she couldn’t use the sunscreen at home as it was expired, but we could use it as an experiment to paint with. We talked about what will happen to the sunscreen if we left our artwork out in the sun. We made guesses on whether the sunscreen will be visible on our papers or not?

I think the activities which are based on children’s interests is also a good way to expand their learning. We brought more science experiments to our classroom to help children develop their cognitive and language skills. We are encouraging the children to engage more with the activities we provide instead of just watching.

We plan to continue introducing new science experiments and bring back some previous favourites into our routine for the children to explore. We also plan to have the children come up with their own experiments, using the materials they believe we should use!
