Tinsel Fun!

Infant

This month we had so much fun exploring tinsel! The interest sparked when educator Michelle used some to make a home-made car wash for an activity and the infants were more interested in the tinsel than the activity itself! This got Michelle thinking and she came up with a sensory tinsel day! She collected a variety of colours, like red, gold, and silver and attached them to a couple of hula hoops and hung them from the ceiling so they danced and dangled to the floor. She also attached some to our sensory tent we have hanging up in our room so it looked like a glittery curtain! “Wow” we heard Nathan shout as he ran over to move his arm through the tinsel watching it move back into place. “Do you hear the sound it makes when we move it?” Michelle had asked, some of the infants smiled and babbled back as they’d walk and crawl back and forth through it. “I see you” some of the educators would say as they’d peek their heads slowly through the tinsel, causing the infants to laugh and say boo!

Since using the tinsel on our hula hoops, the infant educators have also used it in a few other ways, from sensory bins to using them for a mactac activity! What else do you think we could use tinsel for?
