When fall comes to Preschool, our preschoolers head out to enjoy the changes in the environment. First, we went on a walk to the field and saw lots of leaves on the grass. We were wondering why the leaves were different colours. They were green, red, yellow and orange. We collected them in a bin and decided to make our own trees for this season. The educator cut tree picture frames out of construction paper and used tape on the back of it to make it sticky. The children used the leaves that we collected, and some plastic leaves and flowers to decorate our trees. The learning that is based on the environment is always meaningful for children. Children could seek for the information from the nature and use their great imagination to make the crafts that they like. Also, this activity helps develop children’s cognitive skills and eye-hand coordination. We started introducing seasons, months, days and weathers to children during small and large group time in our Preschool room to help children develop their cognitive skills. The educators have noticed that children seem very interested in the songs and ways we talk about the different topics. We are going expand on this learning by observing what interests the children the most about the season and discover new ways to explore the changes in our environment.
