Easter Fun and Learning

Preschool

This month, the children engaged in joyful explorations centered around Easter and Palm Sunday, including sensory play, storytelling, and shared experiences. At the Tuff Tray, the children used their imagination as Caiden exclaimed, “I love all of these eggs and grass,” while Ayoub wondered, “Maybe they will hatch,” carefully hiding eggs beneath the Easter grass. Ashton worked with focus to match coloured eggs to cards, and Raelynn investigated by opening an egg and noting, “Not in it.” The group began imagining their own traditions, with Liam suggesting, “Maybe we can hide the eggs outside like an Easter bunny.” Their excitement continued outdoors as they discovered eggs hidden around the playground, followed by a surprise visit from the Easter Bunny. Many children happily offered high fives while others chose to observe from a distance. To continue with the Easter fun in the preschool classroom, Educator Jenn provided some egg cut outs along with plastic eggs and different colour paints. The preschool children got to pick which colour egg they wanted, then they began to stamp/paint. “I got a circle,” Alicia said excitedly, noticing that the egg made a circle on her egg cut out. On Ruby’s egg, she used every colour paint to make circles, rotating the different colour paints onto the same spot to make a very cool print.

The children also explored the meaning of Palm Sunday through child led discussion and creative experiences. Parker proudly shared, “I had these at my church and we all said, ‘Hosanna!” Ruby and Caiden made connections to their own experiences at home and church. As they learned about the story of Jesus Christ, Parker curiously asked, “Why a donkey?” prompting thoughtful discussion. Later through the week, the children collaboratively retold the Easter story, with Samuel inviting peers to “Have a discussion about Easter.” Ayoub recalled the donkey, and Rowan made connections by comparing Jesus to Superman. Araz explained that Jesus cried, while Caiden shared that “Jesus was hammered to the cross with nails.” Later the group celebrated together as Caiden joyfully shared, “Jesus is alive now!” Through these experiences the children seemed to deepen their understanding, express diverse perspectives, and strengthen their sense of belonging as they connected traditions from Easter to other celebrations in their community.
