"Can we have a dance party?" This is a question that we hear daily in the preschool room, and the day never feels quite complete until a dance party has taken place. The preschoolers have shown a strong and growing interest in music and movement, frequently requesting a wide variety of musical genres and artists including such as Bon Jovi, K-Pop Demon Hunters and most recently, festive Christmas music. Alongside this enthusiasm, we have also been exploring many different ways to move our bodies including yoga, and free movement, and following dance tutorials that introduce new and exciting body breaks.
With this interest in mind, we we're thrilled to invite Erik Traplin for a morning filled with music and dancing fun. Excitement and curiosity filled the air as children eagerly watched Erik set up his speakers and instruments, patiently waiting for the concert to begin. once everything was ready, the toddlers gathered with us on the carpet, and the room quickly came alive with music and movement. We began dancing and listening together and soon bubbles filled the air, adding an extra layer of joy as children moved around the room trying to catch them.
Later, Erik introduced us to each of his instruments and welcomed the children to become part of his band. Working together, the children had the opportunity to explore and play a variety of instruments including
a bango drums, shakers, marracas, stand-up bass, and tambourines. Though this experience, the children practiced turn-taking, cooperation and listening skills while expressing themselves through music. We thoroughly enjoyed dancing with our friends and siblings and singing along to some of our favourite songs making it a truly memorable and perfect morning of movement and connection.
