We have welcomed a new group of children into the toddler program. The children were overwhelmed with mixed emotions with the new environment and getting to know their new educators. Megha, Gerri and Bailey invited the kids into the room by asking them what they would like to play with and of course lots of snuggles.
Gerri brought out some paint for the toddlers to have some sensory and creative experiences. Sunny really liked to paint and spent quite a while sitting and painting at the table. Samarth liked to use the paint brush and paint on the paper, when he was all done painting, He clapped for himself. Kids are very excited and cheer for themselves if they finish doing something that they have been working on for awhile.
Bailey brought out some blue and red gems for the toddlers to play with. Exploring the gems allows the children to enhance their fine motor skills, increase their colour recognition as well as get to know one another through small group experiences. Brooke and Kimberly enjoyed filling and dumping the jars. They also enjoyed the noise the gems made while hitting the jars or when shaken.
Other children in the room enjoyed exploring their interest in the sandbox. Edwin, Felix and Aiden really liked scooping sand and pouring it in the big bowl. Benny joined in the sand play and chose a small container. He began filling it up with sand and took it over to a toy baby saying, “baby is hungry!” Toddlers really like to use their imagination and creativity while playing!
The children also enjoy making puzzles with the help of educators. It helps the children with fine motor and hand eye coordination. Children refine their skills as they manipulate puzzle pieces to put the puzzles together. They develop the small muscles in their hand that allows them to grasp and move puzzle pieces with precision. It also helps develop basic skills such as shape recognition, concentration, goal setting, patience and sense of achievement!
