Oh, Christmas Tree

Preschool 1

In preschool one we have been getting into the Christmas spirit. We've been decking the halls and hanging the stockings with care. We have also been doing many fun crafts, making two different kinds of ornaments, and setting up a Christmas tree.

We dug our Christmas tree out of storage on December 1st. We blasted some Christmas music as we pulled out the ornaments and tried to figure out how the lights worked. Thomas had a cape that he wanted to put on the tree, maybe he was trying to make it a super tree?

We placed the bows and tinsel with precision and discussed who all had their Christmas decorations up. Ellis talked about how she gets two trees, one real one, and one fake one.

As some of the preschoolers were over at the tree with Christine, others were with Guemhwa decorating some dough ornaments they had made previously. The preschoolers had gotten their hands dirty as they learned how to make the dough ornaments with Syreeta, using their math skills to measure out the flour and salt, and then using their muscles to mix it all together. Once the dough ornaments were baked, the preschoolers got to use their creativity to decorate it how they wanted, making new colours as they experimented with the mixed colours.

The preschoolers continued their fun Christmas activities as they used their fine motor skills to sew string through plates, creating a Christmas tree. Lily Z was very focused as she used her pincer grasp to move the string through the holes in the plate.

Lastly, the preschoolers got to make some beaded Christmas trees with Geumhwa. The preschoolers worked away on making colourful beaded trees made out of popsicle sticks, pipe cleaners and beads. Brayson was seen adding lots of colour to his popsicle stick, which was used as the base of his tree. Ellis was very excited to hang this ornament up on her tree once she got it home.

Since doing all of these activities we have heard many of the preschoolers singing some different Christmas songs and talking about what they are going to do over the Christmas break. It seems that many people are getting in to the Christmas spirit... Now all we need is some snow to make it really feel like Christmas!
