Adventures in the Forest!

Program Name: Preschool 2

This month, Preschool 2 has had the opportunity to explore and reconnect with nature! It is no surprise that our preschoolers love the outdoors, especially getting messy in it! While our playground is being rebuilt and the beautiful weather is finally staying, the children have asked to go on walks in the forest.

During our adventures in the woods, the preschoolers were courageous, imaginative and full of wonder. Forest walks are an excellent experience for children to understand their boundaries and capabilities. While in the forest, big body and gross motor play was a big hit with lots of climbing, jumping, crawling and lifting. Although some were afraid, Alexander, Ini and Lily were so brave and climbed the biggest fallen trees in the forest! Yekuno, Violet and Clark scavenged the woods and were so proud of the “giant” sticks and rocks they found. They made sure that we knew they had “big strong muscles” to lift them.

In one of the small ponds, Ayan, Ayla and Kaia were immediately drawn to it. They found large branches and ‘mixed together’ anything they could find - leaves, rocks, twigs - and created a soup! Meanwhile, Leon, Shania and Arthur found a small insect crawling on the path. They had conversations and questions about what they were observing such as; “What is it?” and “Look at it crawling!”

With the sunshine and warmer temperatures returning, we are so excited to see what the preschoolers can accomplish in our nature walks.
