Play Dough!

Print
Program Name: Infant

This month we have been exploring lots of sensory based activities with our infants. We have done a variety of different water bins, painting, and exploring different textures. The children all seem to be very engaged in their learning and even add their own things into each activity. We decided to introduce some scented play dough into the environment.

The educator added in cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg to give it that fall scent. The children were ready to explore and manipulate the play dough with the different tools that were given. The children used the cookie cutters to make different shapes and letters that we would help identify. The children used the different rollers to make it flat or add ridges into the play dough. What was very interesting about this activity was the materials the children brought in to enhance their experience. One of the children saw the ramp used for balls and cars to roll down in the corner of the room, he decided he would bring it to the play dough table. Then he proceeded to try and roll the playdough down. One of the educators helped in creating balls out of the play dough so that the children could roll It down the ramp. The children also used the ramp to slide the different tools down watching the cause and effect take place. Overall this was a great experience that helped enhance the children's development and allow them to be creative and curious in their own way.
