Program Name: School-age 1

This month was an amazing month full of fun activities and learning. The children showed an interest in seasons as they observed changes in the trees out on the playground. Ruby asked questions about the changes in the weather and how many seasons of trees we have?

Three Children said “there are four seasons of trees”. Other two children replied six. Other children said twelve and sixteen.

Ruby gave the children some paper with four trees on them. They used q-tips and different coloured paints to create the trees according to their season. This activity provided an opportunity for the children to practice their fine motor skills and social skills. One of the children helped their peers by telling them to use green for the spring season. Another child said “We can use white for the winter.". Two children explained to other peers to use yellow, red and orange for autumn and fall. This is the best way to understand the passage of time and teach them about the change and gave opportunity for the children to explore different parts of trees.

As children are helping each other, this demonstrates the development of social skills. There are some younger children within the program, and the older children are demonstrating leadership skills as they assist the younger ones.

We are excited to see where the children’s interests will lead the program this year.
