Snowflake Soup!

Program Name: Toddler 1

This month we have been exploring different winter activities! It was the first day we had some snow outside and everyone was very interested in it as they watched it through the window. We thought we would make our own snow before we went out to play in the real stuff! We set up a “Snowflake Soup” activity on our tuff tray.

In the tray we added many different textured materials. Our main ingredients were glitter shaving foam with conditioner mixed in. Everyone was very excited to see it and jumped right in! Emily enjoyed lathering herself with the foam and shortly after a few other friends thought it was funny and joined in. Mason was collecting the gems as they were being hidden by the foam. He showed all of his peers with a big smile as he picked up each one. Throughout the activity Ashaar was collecting pompoms and putting them off to the side in his bowls. He was very engaged and made sure all of the pompoms were removed from the tray. Melina was telling everybody how good it smelt and held her hand full of foam up to her nose to take a big whiff. She giggled and did it a few times while her friends joined in smelling the foam they had on their hands.

By Adding different textures and smaller materials we are supporting children’s motor development and communication skills. We wanted to enhance our learning and knowledge about snow and bring in more materials. We allowed for everyone to use their creativity and imagination skills. We can’t wait to see what else we will explore this winter and how we will incorporate more snow inside! Have a great holiday!
