Program Name: Toddler 1

The children in Toddler 1 have shown an interest in sensory play. Ruby planned a special sensory experience for the children involving sensory bins and various shapes and colourful buttons. Ruby gathered some ribbon for button hunting. The colorful containers were placed beside the sensory bins so the children could to match the colours. The children practiced identifying colours and sorting while strengthening their fine motor skills as they explored the materials. Sorting objects, matching shapes, colours and then pictures helps build visual perception and critical thinking skills. This experience also fostered memory skills as the children sorted and categorized the various shapes and colours.

The children engaged in this activity and demonstrated their skills through this experience. They were able to take practise turn-taking skills, and they also shared the buttons with their peers. They expressed themselves by saying “I found a star”, “it is hard”, “I love the purple button”, “I got a green button like a flower”. This activity gave the opportunity for the children to enhance their colour recognition and communication skills.
