Program Name: Toddler 2

One day, our toddlers had an opportunity to engage with letters. Ruby set up an activity to match up letters from the alphabet. The main goal of this activity was to develop and foster the children’s letter recognition. Ruby used the foam letters and began prompting the children by asking them about the different sounds of alphabet. At the beginning, Ruby showed the children the letter “A” and asked, “A is for what?”. The children were exposed to the letters both visually and verbally. While using the foam letters, the children had the opportunity to foster their colour recognition skills as well.

The children expressed themselves in their own way by saying things such as, “It is red”, “It is soft”, “A purple colour”, “C for Claire”, “D for daddy”. Some children matched them perfectly as they know some of the alphabet. During the activity, some children helped their peers and they were able to strengthen their connections with each other. This activity was engaging for the children and we are excited to observe their literacy journeys!
