School-age 2

The children in School Age 2 continue to utilize their creative skills. This path month it has been using loose parts and cardboard boxes. When the educator brought empty boxes in the room they were ready to go!

They independently thought about what they were going to make. Colton said, “I’m going to make an old TV!” Elora told the educator she was going to make a pumpkin costume.

Autumn and Kyrielle chose to work together on a historical diorama with three dimensional aspects.  All the children were able to recall how to make these things through memory.

Spencer made a monster. Spencer fostered his fine motor skills while intricately placing small green stickers along his monsters’ mouth as teeth, while he was doing this it also demonstrates “symbolic play” which is using objects to represent other objects.

Providing loose parts and a variety of materials also enables the children to express themselves in their own individual way. This activity was about the process, not the finished product. Although, all the children had an amazing end to their creativity!
