Preschool

From the last couple of weeks we observed the preschoolers getting engaged and focused on the dramatic play centre. Each morning as they arrived to the room they  would go the play centre and explore with their peers.

Recently dolls with the different cultured dresses were added to our dramatic play and the preschoolers loved it. Audrey put on a scarf and shirt with the pants and said, “Shahzad she looks like you”. Everyday Luna and Luca play” The Family” in the family Luna plays role as a mommy and Luca plays role as a daddy. During this playful moments Luna was heard saying, "I am mommy and taking care of the whole family and taking my kids to the park in the evening”. Aleah, Alice and Lexa were exploring and focused on the pets in the family. Lexa pretended to be kitty in the house and was saying “Meow Meow ." Liam used the stove cooking his mommy favourite veggies for her and said “ My mommy likes veggies, cause it’s healthy!"

Calen and Kimberly got engaged with the baking part and Calen said “I am baking cookies for mommy and daddy”. Quinn and Alice often act out as the kids in the family. Rumi and Emilia like to make some sandwiches in the kitchen and said they were very yummy sandwiches we put some chicken in them."

Preschool children participating in dramatic play

Through dramatic play children learn to express themselves, understand different perspectives and build crucial social skills like making friends, peer group entry skills, helping skills, empathy skills, and interacting positively and respectfully. It also helps in their vocabulary and communication skills as they interact with their peers in various pretend scenarios.

We are wondering, if we can cook, bake or make some food in our real kitchen once in a month with the preschoolers and enjoying them that would be really fun for the children.
