School-age 2

This month the School-age children in the After school 2 class, have been exploring many different ways to help keep ourselves healthy. One of the ways we discussed was physical activity, which can be achieved in many different ways. During outside times, the children have an opportunity to participate in various sports and activities. A few of our favourite games to play are basketball, soccer and badminton. These activities have been a just a few of the ways that we have been able to get our goal of physical activity in also have fun!
With some of the beautiful weather we had this month we spent extra time outdoors. We recently were able to bring out some of our spring and summer equipment which included some skipping ropes, ball hockey sticks, and hula hoops. The children took a liking to skipping right off the hop! Educator Natalie used to do skipping as a sport and showed all of us some tricks she could do while skipping. This was very intriguing to the children and a few of them were eager to learn how to do some of the tricks Natalie showed us. Their desire to learn was so strong that a few of them could not only do the tricks, but also helped them be able to skip a lot better and faster. One afternoon while we were all outside, we got Susan and Michelle to try it out as well!

With a lot of our children in extra curricular activities outside of RisingOaks, we’ve been learning about tons of tricks and tips for a variety of sports. Practicing these tips have been a great way to make a child’s voice feel heard, which in turn gives them a sense of pride, belonging and teaches great sportsmanship and teamwork.
