Building New Relationships

School-age 1

As the new School year began we welcomed several new children into our program. Some children moved up from the Preschool room at RisingOaks | John Sweeney, while others were brand new to our organization. As the week progressed we began to understand the children, their interests and dislikes. We quickly observed new friendships develop as the children played outside and engaged in activities inside. The Sk’s in our class became great role models for the new Jk’s as they explained the expectations, participated in our “Fun fact” time and modeled how to clean up their toys when they were finished an activity.

The Educators in the SA #1 program want to ensure each child feels a sense of belonging. We promote small group games, partner activities as well as individual exploration within the classroom. The children worked together to create intricate designs with blocks and placed the animals or cars into their play to create a dramatic play experience. As we observe this play, we begin to ask ourselves “What if” to see how we as Educators can further their learning and development. We want the children to feel a sense of wonder, the need to explore, and want to discover. The children have shown a huge interest in Chemistry as they have been mixing “potions” together. We will incorporate this into our programming as we gather materials that will react when we combine them together.

We have really enjoyed getting to know you and your children over the last couple of weeks and look forward to our year ahead. Please feel free to come into the program at pick up and engage in some activities with your child.
