This month at Rising Oaks | John Sweeney The toddlers enthusiastically explored early math concepts through a variety of hands-on number activities. They practiced counting, number recognition, sorting, matching, and patterning, using coloured animals, foam numbers, numbered envelopes and popsicle sticks in our exciting “Feed the Shark” game. The children demonstrated growing confidence as they counted objects, matched numerals to quantities, and began recognizing written numbers. Chigozirim, proud, as he matched the number one with one animal, Eli created colourful patterns by alternating animals, Nova counted her animals to three and Logan confidently identified the number two and carefully paired numbers until he found the correct match, celebrating his success with a joyful, “Yes!”.
These engaging experiences supported the development of early numeracy while also strengthening language, memory, problem-solving, fine motor skills, and social skills such as turn taking and listening. Through repetition, encouragement, and playful exploration, the children became more confident in using numbers and making connections between spoken and written numerals. We will continue building on these skills by providing many opportunities for the children to recognize, count, and use numbers throughout the classroom, fostering a life long love of learning through meaningful, hands-on experiences!
