Holiday Magic!

The toddlers at RisingOaks Early Learning | John Sweeney have been completely immersed in the magic of Christmas over the past few weeks. The excitement first arrived with a big snowfall. As the children looked through the window at the snow, Iris announced, “Christmas soon!” and “See Santa!” Her words instantly sparked interest. Myles and Ciaran quickly chimed in with requests for “hoho music,” which has now become our official classroom soundtrack.we listen to it every day with big smiles.

As we brainstormed ways to decorate our room, Sully proudly suggested we needed a “tree.” Together, the children took part in decorating our Christmas tree with ornaments. Before long, the toddlers’ curiosity took over and they began decorating themselves, giggling as they explored the feel of garland wrapped around their arms and shoulders.

Our dramatic play area transformed into a busy cookie bakery. Using Christmas-themed cookie cutters, the toddlers matched, sorted, and “baked” pretend cookies for their friends. This imaginative play brought lots of teamwork, conversation, and plenty of pretend taste-testing.
We also created several Christmas crafts that now brighten our classroom walls. One favourite project was a large fireplace mural. After we added each toddler’s baby photo to the mantel, the children were delighted, many pointed and repeated “fireplace!” throughout the day. A few even leaned in to gently touch the tissue-paper flames, checking carefully to see if they were hot.

Outdoor winter play has been a big adventure too. At the start of the season, many toddlers were unsure about the cold, offering firm little “no’s.” But over time, those hesitations melted away. Now they eagerly roll in the snow, explore snowy textures, and enjoy the occasional “snowy snack” with huge enthusiasm.

Children bring such wonder to the holiday season, and their joy has filled each day with warmth. As we continue celebrating together, we look forward to all the discoveries the new year will bring to our toddler community!
