The Bulldozer

Since the children are interested in construction trucks, I was wondering if they would like to ride on a, “bulldozer,” on the playground.
Melissa and I taped cardboard boxes to the front of the ride on cars as a bulldozer. The children had so much fun. They kept yelling, “excavator,” when they saw the cars on the playground. The children took turns to ride their, “bulldozer." They rode the, “bulldozer,” around the playground and got some leaves. The children would peek from the top of the cardboard box to make sure they collected leaves in their, “bulldozer."
There were also two smaller boxes on the playground too. The children were hanging the boxes on the handle of the bike to carry leaves around. Some of them were putting them onto their heads. I wondered if that was the helmet for their bulldozer. Some of the children would use the boxes to collect leaves and dumped the leaves into the leaf bag.
This activity is a great starting point for creative and imaginative play. The children can use their imagination and problem-solving skills to turn ideas into reality. It also encourages the children’s gross motor skills. Children who ride vehicle learn spatial reasoning, sharpen visual motor skills and strengthen sensory-motor skills. Additionally, they build strong muscles and bones. Riding a, “bulldozer,” engages muscles that support balance and coordination. Through imaginative play children learn critical thinking skills, how to follow simple directions, build expressive and receptive language, increase social skills and learn how manage their emotions.
To extend the activity, I can make other, “vehicles,” to see what the children would do, what would they use it for?
