In the month of March, a prominent interest in Preschool 2 has been building literacy skills! We have had so many meaningful learning opportunities surrounding letters, reading and name recognition.
Through the exploration of one of our favourite stories - Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, our preschoolers have been able to expand their understanding of the alphabet and which letters belong to their names. They have done an excellent job in identify letters they know, but also those that they don’t. This has built their confidence in taking on the task of attempting to learn their names, while also celebrating the success of this new learning milestone.
Additionally, we have created dry erase name tracing cards to continue offering a variety of literacy experiences, while the preschoolers can continue developing the muscles in their hands needed for writing. Many children throughout have observed the different shapes that create letters, such as circles, curves and “sticks”.
We have been so impressed with the learning they have achieved already and we are excited to see them continue to grow. In the coming months, to prepare some of our preschoolers for Kindergarten, we hope to expand this interest into possibly learning their peers’ names or even their last names!
