Celebrating Diversity, Creativity, and the Winter Season

Program Name: School-age 3

As we welcome the winter season and prepare for a joyful holiday break, we are excited to share some of the wonderful learning and creativity happening in School-age 3 this month!

Throughout December, the children explored celebrations from around the world and learned how families may honour different traditions or create their own! Our focus was on celebrating diversity, building community, and recognizing that every child’s experiences and traditions are unique and valued.

This month, children participated in a variety of activities that highlighted different cultural celebrations and winter traditions. Through stories, art, and small-group discussions, they had the chance to learn about winter holidays such as Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and other cultural and family traditions. We emphasized respect, curiosity, and understanding as children shared what is meaningful to them and also learned about others.

One of the highlights of the month was our “Create Your Own Celebration” activity. Children were encouraged to use their imaginations to design their own winter or holiday celebration. They brainstormed traditions, foods, decorations, and special activities that would make their unique celebration feel meaningful and fun. This gave them a chance to express themselves, use creative problem-solving skills, and celebrate what is important to them.

The children also engaged in a variety of hands-on seasonal activities, including participating in community games that encouraged teamwork and belonging. These experiences supported creativity, fine motor skills, social-emotional learning, and a sense of connection within our group.
