In our School-age 2 program, we believe that every child is an artist, bursting with ideas and creativity. As educators, it is our joy and responsibility to empower children to explore their imaginations and express themselves freely. Our projects are thoughtfully designed to foster creativity, encourage exploration, and help children see the magic in art.
Mother's Day is a special opportunity for our young learners to understand and express emotions such as love, affection, gratitude, and thoughtfulness—important pillars of social-emotional development. Through celebration, children begin to grasp the values of empathy, respect, and appreciation, while also building confidence as they learn to communicate their feelings.
In preparation for the day, we had a group discussion about the meaning of Mother’s Day and ways we can show our appreciation. We read the heartwarming story called “Mrs. Pepper’s Mother’s Day”, which sparked a beautiful exchange of ideas and values among the children. Each child then had the opportunity to say one special sentence to their mum.
Here’s what they shared:
Nevaeh: “Thank you for giving me life.”
Emilia: “Thank you for protecting me. I am lucky to have you as mum.”
Ruke: “Thank you for making good dishes and making my life easy.”
Elena: “Thank you for being best mum and best friend.”
Gabriel: “Thank you for being the ground holding me up.”
In addition to our discussion, children were provided with a variety of art materials to create their own lollipop flower pot as a special gift for their moms. Through open-ended art activities like this, children are not only able to express their feelings but also develop essential skills. When children create, they learn. They think critically, solve problems, relate to others, and manage their emotions—all through the joy of artistic expression. At RisingOaks, we believe children learn through play.
Happy Mother’s Day to our all-wonderful mothers in the program.
