During the months of January and February, the infants have not been able to go outside much due to the cold temperatures. The educators have noticed the infants looking out the windows at the toddlers when they are able to play outside. One afternoon in February when the temperature was okay to go out, Educator Amanda took two of the infants outside while the others were sleeping. Carter and Emily were not so sure about being outside at first. Amanda said, “Do you want to ride in the sled?”. Amanda helped the children into the sled and then pulled them around the playground. Carter and Emily smiled as they went for a fun ride.
The rest of February has been too cold unfortunately for the infants to go outside so the educators decided to bring the outside in, and prepared a snow painting activity. Educator Linh filled the tuff tray with snow and provided cups with water mixed with food colouring and paint brushes. The educators modeled to the infants how to paint the snow. The infants all stayed engaged in this activity for a long time. The infants used their hand-eye coordination to dip the brush into the water and move the brush on the snow. Some of the infants eventually started to dump the cups and watch colourful puddles appear. At the end of the activity we made a snowman!
We wonder what else we can do with the snow.
