Snow Much Snow

Program Name: Toddler 2

During the month of December, the toddlers had the opportunity to experience a little bit of the outdoors - indoors! Each child was invited to explore an individual sensory experience with coloured snow!

The toddlers were provided with bowls, a spoon and a tray full of snow. They were then encouraged to explore the snow as we shared and discussed our discoveries together

The children strengthened their descriptive language by exploring how the snow felt, discussing whether it was cold or warm, wet or dry, among other observations. “Its cold” exclaimed Arya. “Blue!” Carter added as he identified the colours of his snow. Some children used the spoon to scoop the snow into cups while others molded the snow with the heat from their hands. The toddlers all played with the snow in various ways as they investigated all of the possibilities!

Sensory experiences encourage the development of motor skills as well as stimulate scientific thinking and problem-solving skills. Overall, this experience supported the toddler’s language development while also nurturing their natural curiosity and creativity.
