It’s getting spooky in Preschool 1! We went for spooky vibes this month with our white tuff tray Thursday! The children made witches brew potions in little cauldrons that were pre-filled with baking soda, food colouring and of course glitter!
The children were mesmerized by the chemical reaction baking soda and vinegar had when mixed together! “I love being a scientist.”, said Miles as he poured the vinegar into the cauldron. “It’s bubbling.”, pointed out Easton when he dumped the vinegar into the cauldron and watched the foamy mixture overflow from the cauldrons. “The colours are mixing together.”, pointed Tia as the red and blue food colouring mixed on the tuff tray.
The preschoolers stirred, scooped, and poured the vinegar. They added different loose parts to their cauldrons like colourful eyeballs, bones, creepy crawlies, bats, spiders, etc. Each potion was uniquely brewed based on the children’s wants. “Look at all the eyeballs!”, cheered Landon. “Bones, bones and more bones! I love bones.”, said Cruz with a big smile. “Bats and spiders, oh my!”, screamed Emily. The children took their time mixing and brewing as they engaged in deep and meaningful conversations amongst themselves. They shared the materials with one another and assisted their peers when they couldn’t reach a certain material.
