The Builder’s Corner

Program Name: School-age 3

This month, children have been bursting with creativity as they have been exploring with LEGO building structures! Using their imaginations, they constructed everything from houses to movie theaters, restaurants, marble mazes, and so much more. Each creation was unique, showing off their incredible problem-solving skills and architectural ideas.

Building with LEGO is highly beneficial for school-age as it promotes a range of important developmental skills such as creativity and imagination. LEGO encourages children to think creatively, allowing them to bring their ideas to life by constructing houses or entire cities. It fosters imaginative play, where they can design, modify, and experiment with different builds. While building, children often encounter challenges like figuring out how pieces fit together or how to make structures stable. They learn to solve problems through trial and error, enhancing their critical thinking skills. Manipulating small LEGO pieces requires hand-eye coordination, which strengthens children’s fine motor skills.

Building with LEGO introduces basic Math concepts such as counting, symmetry, balance, and geometry. It also introduces engineering principles, such as understanding weight distribution, structure stability, and how different components work together. When working in groups, LEGO encourages collaboration, sharing ideas, and teamwork. Children can build projects together improving their communication and social interaction skills. LEGO building offers an engaging way for children to develop essential cognitive, physical, and social skills while having fun.
