The Leaf Craft

Print
Program Name: Toddler 1

As we know, it is the fall season and our toddlers are really interested in playing with leaves and other sensory items. While taking prominent interests into consideration, an educator prepared a craft activity for the toddlers. The children engaged in a creative craft activity that involved using leaf outlines, glue, feathers, and glitter. This was a small-group activity and it created an opportunity for social interactions and communication skills development. It enhanced their hand-eye coordination through gluing and sprinkling glitter which requires precision and control. The children manipulated the small materials, such as feathers and glitter which improves hand strength and coordination.

Craft fosters sensory exploration which promotes cognitive development and problem-solving skills. This activity fostered the children’s sense of creativity and self-expression while encouraging individuality. While handling the different items, this promoted their sensory awareness. The children also strengthened their colour recognition while naming the colours of the items.

This activity not only allowed toddlers to engage in a fun and creative experience but also supported key developmental skills. By integrating art with play, caregivers can foster holistic growth in young children, paving the way for a future of learning and exploration.
