In Preschool 2, we explored diversity in an exciting and colourful way!
With only a handful of materials, the children let their creativity run wild in creating a character made of loose parts, glue and lots of imagination.
Many children gave their characters attributes that resembled their loved ones, “this is like my mommy’s hair!” while another child exclaimed “that’s his smile. That’s daddy’s smile!” Other children took a different approach and invented characters based on their favourite prehistoric creatures, “this is a dino. A big dino! He’s so red!” and “he has big teeth, ROAR!”
The best part of the experience by far, was watching the preschoolers sharing their unique masterpiece with one another. In fostering a sense of belonging within the classroom, the children would compliment, make comparisons and have conversations about the artistry they saw from their peers.
Each of these characters represents a child’s thinking, wonder and creative ideas. Who do you see in your child’s art work?
