In School-age 1, our recent focus has been on nurturing, empathy, and care through imaginative play. The introduction of a toy veterinary kit has sparked a wave of enthusiasm among the children, leading them to explore the important role of veterinarians in our community.1

As soon as the veterinary kit was unpacked, the children gathered around, their eyes wide with excitement. They took turns using the toy scrubs and stethoscopes, transforming the classroom into a bustling vet clinic. Child A eagerly picked up a stuffed dog, gently checking its heartbeat with the toy stethoscope. "I think he needs a check-up!" she declared, her face lighting up with determination.

Meanwhile, Child B had a baby doll tucked under her arm. She gently cradled it while using a toy syringe to give it a pretend vaccination. "Don't worry, you'll feel better soon!" She reassured the doll, showcasing nurturing instincts. This imaginative role-play not only allowed the children to express their creativity but also encouraged them to empathize with both their animal patients and each other.

With the support of their peers, they practiced diagnosing their stuffed animals and dolls, developing their communication skills as they explained what their 'patients' needed. "I think the puppy needs some medicine for his tummy ache," they announced, demonstrating their understanding of the responsibilities of a vet.

Throughout the week, the children also began to incorporate one another into their play. During the afternoon session, they took turns being the vet, the animal, and even the worried pet owner. "Don't worry, I'll take good care of Fluffy," said a child while pretending to comfort his friend, who was acting as a concerned pet parent. This collaborative play fostered a sense of community and support among the children, helping them develop strong social skills.

Overall, the use of the veterinary kit has provided valuable opportunities for the children to enhance their understanding of empathy, care, and the importance of helping others—be it animals or friends. Through their interactions, they have not only fostered their curiosity about veterinary science but also cultivated a strong sense of community and support, reinforcing the importance of kindness and care in their everyday lives
