Easter Activities

Our program celebrates diversity through a variety of multicultural events, story times, and classroom materials. These include Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Diwali, Holi, Lunar New Year, Baisakhi, Ramadan, and multicultural scrapbooks, all designed to help our preschoolers feel safe, inclusive, confident, and comfortable by embracing equity, inclusion, and belonging. This month the preschoolers enjoyed several Easter-themed activities. They began by searching for Easter eggs, opening and closing the empty plastic eggs, and rolling them down a ramp in the Easter Sensory Bin. Even after enjoying all Easter activities, they continued exploring by putting diamond and heart gems in the empty plastic eggs, shaking them to hear the sounds, pretending to cook, and making hairy, wacky hair with shredded paper while standing around the sensory bin. Next, the children had a chance to paint their Easter eggs by dropping the eggs into bins of coloured paint and shaking them to coat the shells. The process was delightfully messy and encouraged exploration of colour and motion. We then gathered on the carpet for a game that showcased teamwork, concentration, fine motor skills, and numeracy. I introduced the activity with educator Judy and demonstrated how to play, aiming to try not to drop the eggs. All the preschoolers came to the front and sat in the designated chairs. I provided plastic spoons and a basket with an egg carton, one empty and the other filled with small plastic eggs. The children were tasked with carefully passing the eggs” to one another using their spoons until the empty egg carton was filled, all while songs played. They were thrilled to participate and eagerly handed off eggs to their peers. While passing the eggs without dropping them proved challenging, the occasional drop sparked laughter and added to the fun. They were incredibly focused on keeping the eggs intact, and it was delightful to watch their careful coordination. Well done, preschoolers! Your enthusiasm and teamwork truly shone today.
