Fireworks in cup!

  • School-age 3

This month children in school age 3 explored a fun science activity by making fireworks in a cup. The children were provided with baking soda, vinegar, food colouring, and clear cups. They were excited to see what would happen when the ingredients were mixed together. First, the children added baking soda into their cups and chose different food colouring colours. Kayleb carefully added blue food colouring and said, “I think mine will look like a real firework!” Jaxson smiled and replied, “I’m using red because red fireworks are my favourite.” Chayce added green and said, “Mine is going to be the biggest explosion!”. The children then slowly poured vinegar into their cups. They watched closely as the mixture began to fizz, bubble, and rise. Their eyes were full with excitement.“ Wow! Look at all the bubbles!” exclaimed Jaxson.“It’s growing so fast!” said Chayce. Kayleb laughed and said, “It looks like fireworks bursting in the sky!. ”The children talked about what they observed and compared the colours and bubbling reactions in their cups. This hands-on experiment encouraged curiosity, observation, and early scientific thinking. The children demonstrated confidence as they predicted outcomes, explored cause and effect, and shared their ideas with one another. It was a joyful learning experience that combined science, creativity, and teamwork.
