Holiday treat!

School-age 2

In School-age 2, we engaged students in a fun and festive activity where they made s’more cups as a holiday treat. The children were split into two groups and began by crushing Graham crackers. Each child took turns using a zip-lock bag to smash the crackers fostering teamwork and fine motor skills. Afterward, the crushed crackers were mixed with melted butter and each student scooped some of the mixture into muffin liners, pressing it down to form a cup shape. Once the bases were set, the cups were baked in the oven for 5 minutes to crisp up. Next, the children added a layer of chocolate and topped it with marshmallows. The s’more cups were then baked for an additional 2 minutes, allowing the chocolate to melt and the marshmallows to become golden brown. While the treats were baking, we prepared hot chocolate to complement the s’mores. The children took great joy in both the hands-on preparation and the chance to enjoy their delicious creations together. This activity helped promote teamwork, following instructions, patience, and an understanding of simple cooking processes, all while celebrating the holiday spirit. The smiles on their faces reflected the fun and learning that took place.
