Winter can be cold but we always find ways to get outside, have fun and enjoy the season. Our usual activities including building snowman, engaging in sledding, shoving snow into blocks to make igloo walls. These activities promote cardiovascular health, strength and coordination. Not only activities for our physical strength, but we also created our outdoor winter art as well. One afternoon, we decided to prepared our painting supplies and moved our painting area to be outside to exercise our creative skills. During the transition to the playground the children communicated to each other “I wondered what can we paint on snow?” “I don’t know either” some peers replied. As soon as we arrived in the playground, we put the painting supplies in an easy access area for everyone. The children grabbed paintbrushes, dipped them into paints then started to paint on snow. Some children made dots on a piece of a tiny ice. Some children sprinkled paints on snow. “look! I make a rainbow!” A peer shouted! Later, we observed the children discussed to each other about something then we witnessed that they scooped, scraped and gathered snow that have already been painted with their hands and shovels. It became a pile of snow. Together they mixed them up. They talked to each other “look at this colour, they turned purple” “mine is brown”. The educator walked closer and explained that primary colour are red, yellow, and blue once mixed with other colours they will create new colours and those called secondary colours. They nodded and said. “we are making a cake, a rainbow cake”. They explained proudly. This snow painting activity allowed the children to enhance their creativity to implement their thoughts and ideas, promote imagination, social skills, working as a team, helping skills, and support their knowledge of primary and secondary colours.
