Bring On The New School Year!

Preschool 1

We recently have welcomed many new children and families into our programs these past few weeks and what a joy it has been working to create a sense of belonging with the St. Brigid location as well as the Preschool One program.

From getting to know our routines, to creating spaces where each child feels welcomed, and able to come as they are, have been important for our program. The children have been observed not only taking an interest in checking in with each other when they appear saddened at drop off times, but have also been seen recalling those moments and some ways that not only educators but parents and family members have eased these tricky transitions. Some children will grab their water bottle, a favourite item or stuffy from around the room, and some have even learned that a reassuring message gives the comfort necessary to continue on with their activity. Not only have these practices helped to create a sense of well-being and belonging within our program but also helped in fostering relationships that can be seen in many different ways throughout our day.

Many of the preschool domains and skills from the Early Learning for Every Child Today document can be seen throughout these routines, specifically the social domain. Skills such as making friends, problem solving, helping skills, and demonstrating a sense of empathy. But, there are also some others such as recognizing and expressing emotions, using verbal and non-verbal communication, reflecting and reaching conclusions, and many more!

We wonder how we can take these relationships and connections the children have built with each other and continue to strengthen and develop in more ways through out various areas of our program.
