Easter Egg Hunt

Preschool 2

The sun was warm, and the snow was gone as the preschoolers gathered outside with their educators, Song, Emma and Natalie. “Today,” the educators said with a smile, “we are going on an Easter egg hunt!” The children bounced with excitement as they saw their educators each holding a small basket, ready to collect colourful eggs the children found. “Remember, walk safely, look carefully, and we will all share.” Ready… set… go! Off they went! “I found one!” Max yelled, dropping it into the basket. Violet looked under a bush and gasped, “Two blue eggs!” she said proudly. Bennett walked slowly, looking all around. He didn’t see any at first, but then he checked behind a tree, and there was a yellow egg waiting just for him. “I found it!” he smiled. Nearby, Clara and Kingston both reached for the same green egg, causing them to pause. “You can have it,” said Kingston. “We can share,” said Clara. So, they put the egg in the middle and carried it together to Song’s basket.

Shortly after the children gathered back to see how many eggs had been collected, everyone was smiling and so excited. Song kneeled down and said, “Let’s see what we found!” He poured out the eggs and began sorting them. “All the red eggs go here,” someone suggested. “And blue ones here!” another child announced. They counted together. “One, two, three…” all the way to twenty!

While the children were having fun, they were also learning important skills:

Counting and numbers: As they counted the eggs, they practiced number order and quantity.

Colour recognition and sorting: Grouping eggs by colour helped them notice patterns and differences.

Problem-solving: Finding hidden eggs encouraged them to look carefully.

Sharing and cooperation: Like Clara and Kingston, they learned to take turns and work together.

Patience and focus: Searching slowly and carefully helped them stay calm and attentive.

All three teachers smiled at the group. “Look at what you did today!” The children giggled, each holding a colourful egg. “It was so fun!” said Max. “Yes it was.” said Emma.  Sometimes, the best learning happens when we play and have fun! The children looked at each other and laughed. “Let’s play again tomorrow!”

And with baskets full and happy preschoolers they went inside, excited about what they could do next with all the eggs they just found. That afternoon the children had the opportunity to paint with some of the eggs creating prints of a variety of colours, while others explored in the sensory bin full of eggs and Easter grass.
