This month, our little elves have been working hard on their special gifts for parents. We were lucky enough to receive Crock A Doodle pottery for the whole centre with each class getting to complete a very special surprise! Because we only have a short amount of time together, it became a week-long process to get everything finished and back to the shop in time for firing. With limited time, the kids had to think carefully but also work quickly, racing the clock before heading home each day, all while keeping their creations a secret from parents at pick-up!
I wanted the children to have full creative freedom so their gifts would be one-of-a-kind, straight from the heart, made especially for their loved ones, and it truly paid off! Each child was given one coaster, paint, brushes, pencils for sketching, a sponge to fix any mistakes, and a sheet of ideas to spark inspiration. Some of the kids struggled with only having one coaster and worried about making mistakes or not liking their design once they began. One friend even sat thinking for 30 minutes, trying to make it perfect. But with a reminder that mistakes can be fixed, they all dove in wholeheartedly. Many were inspired by candy canes, Christmas trees, snowflakes, Santa’s belt, and so many more wonderful ideas, each with its own unique touch.
This project showed just how much they care when creating something special for someone they love, and how determined they are to bring their vision to life. I loved seeing all the focused faces and the proud smiles as their hard work came together.
Happy holidays, everyone!
