This month in the infant room, we brought the feeling of fall into the classroom. Educator Sukh set up a fall playdough activity which includes soft-coloured play-dough with a dash of cinnamon, pretend pumpkins, fall cookie cutter, leaves and other fall objects. This experience is simple, made up with open-ended material and provides many opportunities for infants to explore and learn.
As the activity was set-up, the infants joined with excitement, squeezing the playdown, feeling the different texture of leaves and pumpkins! Educator Kayla asked, “How does it feels?” and “Do you smell the cinnamon?”. They enjoyed feeling the texture of the playdough, pressing the cookie cutters into it and making apples and pumpkins shapes. The infants smiled, babbled and continued exploring the material throughout the whole morning.
We look forward to trying playdough in different ways and testing out different loose parts with the playdough. Maybe next time we’ll bring in real leaves and sticks to explore with the playdough!
