Monster Jam

Toddler 1

This month, the toddlers have shown a strong interest in monster trucks. We began by printing photos of monster trucks and taping them to our large wooden blocks, allowing the children to use their imaginations during pretend play. A few days later, educators Jess and Aly brought in monster trucks from home, and they quickly became a classroom favourite. The children spent time driving them along ledges, over blocks, and across rainbow curves, experimenting with movement and balance.

Inspired by their play, we decided to build our own monster truck track. Using a large piece of cardboard, the toddlers helped cut it down to size with a special cardboard saw. We transformed additional cardboard boxes into ramps and cut pool noodles into sections to create bumps. With tape, the toddlers helped secure all the pieces to the board, working together to assemble the track. Aly then added spray foam to create texture, and after a few days of drying, we were ready for the next step.

Together, we covered the entire track with paper mâché using scrap paper and glue. While some of our friends were unsure about the new texture, they remained curious and observant. Once dry, we painted the track using brushes and sponges, exploring colour and different painting techniques. Soon it will be fully dry and ready for play we can’t wait to see where the monster trucks go next!
