Oobleck Fun!

School-age 1

This month, the JKK’s have continued to explore their interest in all things sensory. One activity that caught everyone's attention was oobleck! All of our friends were so excited to join the table, but we only had 6 spots so we had to practice our patience by waiting our turn. With the recent construction on the school, one of the interests in the classroom has been any and all things construction. To explore this interest, during our oobleck play we had some construction vehicles, and tools added into the tuff tray. Our friends took turns using the items that they wanted as well as waiting for their turn when an item wasn’t available to play with right away. One of our friends was using one of the diggers as a “snow plow.” “We need to clear out all the snow before more comes,” one of our friends said as he pushed the digger.

During this activity, the children practiced turn taking which focuses on their social skills. We also continued to develop our communication skills as we were talking to our friends about what we were doing and what tools we had. Talking about what tools we had worked on our cognitive skills as they had to use their memory to think of what the name would be. This activity also worked on their fine motor skills as they used their fingers and palms to manipulate the oobleck in certain ways.

What other sensory experiences do you like to do? What could we add into the oobleck next time to make it a better experience?
