Our after-school children have been making the most of their time outdoors, engaging in a wide variety of activities that support physical development, social connections, creativity, and problem-solving. The park has become a space filled with laughter, teamwork, and exploration as the children continue to learn through play.
A favourite part of our afternoons has been participating in group games such as Tag and Grounders. The children eagerly gathered together to organize teams, explain rules, and ensure everyone had a chance to participate. Through these games, they practiced important social skills including communication, cooperation, leadership, and conflict resolution. They demonstrated resilience as they navigated challenges, adjusted strategies, and encouraged one another throughout the games. It was wonderful to observe children of different ages working together, building friendships, and creating an inclusive environment where everyone felt welcome.
In addition to active play, the children explored an exciting and creative art experience that combined movement, experimentation, and imagination. Using toy cars, washable paint, large sheets of white paper, and the playground slide, the children transformed the slide into a giant art ramp. They carefully placed paper at the bottom of the slide and dipped their cars into different paint colors before sending them racing down. As the cars rolled and spun across the paper, they created unique lines, patterns, and colorful designs.
The children were highly engaged in the process and spent time making observations, testing ideas, and discussing their results with peers. They experimented with different amounts of paint, compared the tracks made by various cars, and explored how changing the speed or angle of the cars affected the artwork. Many children worked collaboratively, sharing materials, exchanging ideas, and building upon one another's discoveries. Their excitement was evident as they watched the paint-covered cars create unexpected designs and vibrant masterpieces.
Throughout the week, the children demonstrated curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork. They embraced opportunities to take risks, try new ideas, and learn from both successes and challenges. Whether they were running across the field during a game of Tag, carefully navigating the playground during Grounders, or creating colourful artwork with painted cars, the children showed enthusiasm and a genuine love for learning through play.
These experiences continue to support the development of important skills such as problem-solving, communication, cooperation, gross motor development, fine motor coordination, creativity, and self-confidence. We are proud of the children's engagement, kindness, and willingness to explore new experiences together, and we look forward to many more exciting outdoor adventures in the weeks ahead.
