This month, the Toddler 1 class has been very engaged in water play. It has become a regular staple in our classroom, and the children consistently gravitate toward it. One of their favourite activities during water play is scooping and pouring. This simple exploration has encouraged wonderful teamwork and cooperation, as the toddlers often work side by side, sharing materials and observing one another. We’ve noticed that water play invites the children to slow down and engage for long periods of time—something we love to see. Recently, we’ve added funnels, water wheels, and scoops with holes in the bottom, allowing the children to explore how water moves, pours, and falls through different tools.
Sensory play, especially water play, has definitely become a classroom favourite! It makes us wonder… could we bring our water wall from outside that we used in the summer, into the classroom and incorporate it into our water bin somehow? It might be a great way to extend this interest and offer an exciting new element to their play!
