This October, the Toddler children at RisingOaks | St. Luke brought in items from home that they are thankful for as a Show and Tell event! Lots of them brought books they love reading with their families, while others brought their favourite stuffies and toys, and some even brought photos of their loved ones! While the children were sitting down, Educator Amanda invited each child to come to the front to share what item they are thankful for.
Henry M. brought a photo book of his family and introduced his parents and relatives by pointing out their pictures and names; it was very nice to meet them! Alicia brought a book and taught us how she likes to read it at home, and Educator AJ read it for the children; they enjoyed copying the sounds from the book. Zachary also brought a book and it was about dads! All the children listened intently as Amanda read it to them. Kairo brought his favourite dinosaur toy and showed us his best and biggest dinosaur roar!
After show and tell, we proceeded to have our family-style Thanksgiving lunch. Educator Mandy and our Conestoga College student Nathan put the tables together to form one long table and the children had lunch together happily, observing each other with smiles on their faces and enjoying the new experience. We even got to enjoy pumpkin tarts! After having a taste of the tart, Parker said, "Mmmm!" The children especially loved the soft whipped cream on top!
As our new friends in the Toddler Room settle in, these shared experiences help them get to know each other better and bond with their peers. Our show and tell event celebrated each child's individuality by giving them the space to share what is personal to them, and our Thanksgiving lunch provided an opportunity to form connections between the children in a unique way. We look forward to supporting the Toddler children in continuing to develop positive relationships throughout the year, and beyond!
