Decorating Our Classroom

In the spirit of the holiday season, the toddlers of RisingOaks Early Learning | St. Luke did lots of art activities to decorate the classroom! To start, they all participated in painting a huge sheet of brown paper using flip flop stampers. “Stamp! Stamp! Stamp!” they said happily as they made the group artwork. Then, after the painting dried, the children helped in folding it. Educator AJ cut it up into strips and stapled them to make it into a paper garland that we hung up in the classroom. “Wow!” Finlay exclaimed as he saw their artwork hanging from the branches. “That’s our painting!” Theo noticed.

In addition to the paper garland, the children made colourful wreaths using paper plates and marker caps. The marker caps made a fun circle stamp. “Look! I made a circle!” said Georgia. Educator Simmy added bows to their wreaths and hung them on the paper garland. Another fun decoration activity the toddlers participated in was making frosted pinecone ornaments. As they were playing in the playground outside, they had the great idea to collect pinecones. We took them inside, gave them white paint, and the children were free to use their hands to paint the pinecones! Most preferred to roll the pinecones in the paint, while the others opted to dip their little fingers into the paint and use their fingers as their paintbrush. “The pinecones are all white!” Adelyn shared. After the pinecones dried, they were made into ornaments that were hung around the tree.

Lastly, the children received printed out ornaments, so they used markers and drew and coloured it to their heart’s desire with Educator Caytlin. They were displayed on the wall around the Christmas tree. It was lovely to see the toddlers participate in making decorations as creating art is one of their favourite things to do. Not only that, it is also heartwarming to see them admire, be excited, and be proud of their artworks as they are displayed around the classroom. Our classroom decorating is not done, and we have more exciting activities for the toddlers to enjoy in the near future!
