The School-age 2 children are always eager to spend time outdoors engaging in active play, especially enjoying games of gaga ball and challenging themselves on the monkey bars now that the climber is open for the season. Their excitement and enthusiasm were evident as they encouraged one another, practiced new skills, and celebrated each other’s successes.
During gaga ball, the children demonstrated growing physical coordination, balance, and quick reaction skills as they moved around the pit trying to avoid being tagged by the ball. They practiced taking turns, following rules, and understanding the importance of fair play. All the children split into teams and worked together to brainstorm a plan on how to win. Daniel S was the leader on one team and Grace was the leader on the other. The children showed strong sportsmanship by cheering on their peers, accepting wins and losses respectfully, and helping younger children understand the game. Through teamwork and communication, they learned to cooperate, problem-solve, and build positive peer relationships.
On the monkey bars, the children worked on strengthening their gross motor skills, upper body strength, and perseverance. Many children challenged themselves to cross independently, while others supported friends by offering encouragement and celebrating their progress. Teagan was up and very excited to get on the monkey bars. “Look at me go,” Teagan said. The children demonstrated resilience as they kept trying even when tasks felt difficult, developing confidence and self-esteem through practice and determination.
Outdoor play provides meaningful opportunities for social, emotional, and physical development. The children built friendships, learned to work together, and developed important life skills such as patience, empathy, cooperation, and confidence. Their engagement in active play fostered a positive learning environment where they felt motivated to take risks, support one another, and enjoy being part of a team.
