Winter Wonderland

In December, the snow has come back to our centre! The snow has been such a wonderful thing to happen as it gives us so many new activity opportunities. Many times, our children have made many things with the snow. Forts, beds, chairs, and even slides have all been made out of snow. This easy-to-use and reusable natural product of changing seasons has been a favourite outdoor play item, and even our educators have joined in! Educator Vanessa has been seen enjoying coco on snow chairs while relaxing at the pretend play cafe along with the children, appropriately named "Snow Globe Café," while the children combined snow with puddle water to create their food and drink items. Meanwhile, Educator Ali has helped the children by making building blocks of snow for use in forts by breaking large pieces into smaller, easier-to-use pieces. It’s been a fun winter wonderland for everyone!

While outside, the children started to ask to play in the field where there’s even more snow to play in, as well as previously made creations that the children have worked on during their school outdoor playtime. We have slightly expanded parts of our area of play to include more field space, which has been wonderful for those who want to work together on big projects. These big buildings can take a lot of snow and big muscles, so multiple children team up together to build their masterpieces, and the teamwork has been amazing to see.

Snow provides a wonderful natural loose part that helps expand our creativity, foster gross motor skills, enhance our social skills and provide endless play opportunities. We're excited to see what the children create over this winter season, and will continue to join in on this snowy play!
